Build my study plan

  1. Week 1: Install Terraform 1.12, read the official study guide and build a small VPC or resource group with variables and outputs.
  2. Week 2: Core workflow and configuration - providers, meta-arguments (count, for_each, depends_on), expressions and functions.
  3. Week 3: State - remote backends, locking, terraform state mv/rm, import blocks and moved blocks.
  4. Week 4: Modules and HCP Terraform - write a reusable module, publish to a private registry, use workspaces and run triggers.
  5. Week 5: Review the 003-to-004 content differences page and take timed practice tests.

Exam-day tips

  • Learn what each CLI command changes: plan never touches state, refresh-only updates state, apply -replace forces recreation.
  • Know when to use import blocks and moved blocks versus the older terraform import and state mv commands.
  • Expect questions on HCP Terraform features (workspaces, VCS-driven runs, Sentinel/OPA policies), not just open-source CLI.
  • Understand provider version constraints and the dependency lock file.
  • With about one hour, answer fast and flag; there is no penalty for guessing.
