Course overview
thinQtank® Learning is offering a unique instructor-led training camp that gives students the knowledge and skills needed to do the whole data analyst job in Power BI, not just the charts — connecting to and cleaning data, building a semantic model that will still be right in a year, writing DAX that does what you meant, designing reports people actually use, and then managing and securing the workspaces the organization depends on. The current course also covers Microsoft Fabric and Copilot.
This course also helps students prepare to take the Microsoft PL-300 exam, which awards the Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification. It assumes you already work with data: Microsoft names proficiency in Power Query and DAX explicitly.

What you'll be able to do

- Profile source data, and find the problems before they reach the model
- Clean, transform and load data using Power Query
- Choose a model framework appropriate to the question being asked
- Design and implement a semantic model, including relationships and cardinality
- Create model calculations using DAX, including time intelligence
- Understand filter context, and why a measure returns what it returns
- Optimize model performance, and diagnose what is making a report slow
- Scope report requirements with the people who will actually use the report
- Create reports, and enhance them for usability and storytelling
- Identify patterns and trends, and present them without overstating them
- Create and manage workspaces, semantic models and other assets
- Distribute content, and manage apps and dashboards
- Secure and govern Power BI items, including row-level security
- Work with Microsoft Fabric and Copilot as part of the analytics workflow

- Exam PL-300 — awards Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
- Skills measured, weighted as RANGES rather than fixed percentages, which is how Microsoft publishes them: Prepare the data 25-30%, Model the data 25-30%, Visualize and analyze the data 25-30%, Manage and secure Power BI 15-20%
- NOTE THE FIRST THREE ARE WEIGHTED THE SAME. Two thirds of this exam is data preparation and modeling rather than visualization. Candidates habitually over-prepare on the visible half and lose marks on the other two
- Skills measured were last revised on 20 April 2026, and this course is built on that revision
- Microsoft does not publish the number of questions on its exams, so we do not quote one
- TWELVE MONTHS, THEN A FREE RENEWAL. PL-300 is role-based, so it expires after a year and is renewed at no cost by passing an online assessment on Microsoft Learn. Note the contrast with DP-900 and AZ-900, which are fundamentals certifications and do not expire at all

Prerequisites
- Working proficiency with Power Query and with Data Analysis Expressions (DAX). Microsoft names both explicitly
- Practical knowledge of data modeling, visualization and analysis
- Experience working with business stakeholders and with data engineers
- DP-900 IS THE NATURAL GROUNDWORK if the data-platform vocabulary is new to you. It is a short, inexpensive course and the certification does not expire
