Course overview
thinQtank® Learning is offering a unique instructor-led training camp that gives students the knowledge and skills needed to administer a SQL Server database estate that is now part cloud, part on-premises and part neither — planning and deploying Azure SQL, securing it, monitoring and tuning it, automating the work that should not be done by hand, and building the high availability and disaster recovery that decides whether an outage is an incident or a catastrophe.
This course also helps students prepare to take the Microsoft DP-300 exam, which awards the Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certification. It assumes you already administer databases; AZ-900 and DP-900 are the natural groundwork if either the Azure or the data half is new to you.

- Skills measured, weighted as RANGES rather than fixed percentages, which is how Microsoft publishes them: Implement a secure environment 20-25%, Monitor configure and optimize database resources 20-25%, Plan and configure high availability and disaster recovery 20-25%, Plan and implement data platform resources 15-20%, Configure and manage automation of tasks 15-20%
- Skills measured were last revised on 24 April 2026, and this course is built on that revision
- Microsoft does not publish the number of questions on its exams, so we do not quote one
- TWELVE MONTHS, THEN A FREE RENEWAL. DP-300 is role-based, so it expires after a year and is renewed at no cost by passing an online assessment on Microsoft Learn. Note the contrast with DP-900 and AZ-900, which are fundamentals certifications and do not expire at all

Prerequisites
- THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY-LEVEL COURSE. Microsoft expects working experience building database solutions with Azure SQL services and SQL Server
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server on Azure virtual machines
- Working Transact-SQL, and comfort with the administrative tools
- Experience deploying and managing Azure resources
- AZ-900 AND DP-900 ARE THE NATURAL GROUNDWORK if either the Azure or the data half is new to you. Both are short, inexpensive, and neither expires
