Course overview
thinQtank® Learning is offering a unique instructor-led training camp that gives students the knowledge and skills needed to take a system through authorization and keep it there — scoping the system, selecting and tailoring the controls, implementing them, having them assessed, driving the authorization decision, and maintaining compliance while the system changes underneath them. It is the certification for the person who owns that package and has to defend it.
This course also helps students prepare to take the ISC2 CGRC exam. THIS WAS CAP. ISC2 renamed the Certified Authorization Professional to Certified in Governance, Risk and Compliance in February 2023 — the same credential under a broader name. If you have been told to get your CAP, this is the course.

What you'll be able to do

- Align governance, performance management, risk management and regulatory compliance
- Define and defend the scope and boundary of a system
- Categorize a system, and justify the categorization
- Select a control framework, and tailor the controls to the system
- Obtain approval for the selected control set
- Implement security and privacy controls, and document what was actually done
- Prepare for assessment: evidence, artifacts and the questions that get asked
- Support the assessment or audit of controls, and respond to findings
- Assemble the authorization package and drive the authorization decision
- Establish continuous monitoring that is actually run rather than merely written
- Manage change without silently invalidating the authorization
- Handle compliance maintenance, reauthorization and decommissioning
- Apply the laws, regulations and standards that constrain all of the above
The exam

- ISC2 CGRC — Certified in Governance, Risk and Compliance
- Formerly CAP, the Certified Authorization Professional. ISC2 renamed it in February 2023
- Based on the refreshed CGRC exam outline
- Seven domains: Security and Privacy Governance, Risk Management and Compliance Program; Scope of the System; Selection and Approval of Framework, Security and Privacy Controls; Implementation of Security and Privacy Controls; Assessment or Audit of Security and Privacy Controls; System Compliance; Compliance Maintenance
- ISC2 does not publish an item count, an exam duration or domain weightings for CGRC in any form we can verify, so we do not quote any
- Two years of cumulative, full-time experience in one or more of the domains is required to certify. Pass the exam without it and you become an Associate of ISC2, with three years to earn it
- Accredited to ISO/IEC 17024 by ANAB, and approved by the US Department of Defense under DoDM 8140.03
- CGRC Voucher — an exam voucher is available through thinQtank for $599 USD. Ask when you register and we will add it to your enrollment

- Service members, veterans and military spouses using AF COOL, Army Credentialing Assistance, MyCAA or VET TEC 2.0
Prerequisites
- Two years of cumulative, full-time experience in one or more of the seven CGRC domains
- YOU CAN SIT THE EXAM WITHOUT IT. Pass, and ISC2 makes you an Associate of ISC2 with three years to earn the required experience — the certification is not closed to you while you get there
- Working familiarity with a control framework such as NIST RMF or ISO 27001 makes the course land faster
