Exam PSF Skills

PSF Skills is a Scrum.org certification that shows you can facilitate Scrum events and team interactions so groups reach decisions and outcomes, not just hold meetings. In 2026, as teams run more hybrid and remote events, facilitation is one of the most visible gaps in Scrum Masters and agile coaches, and this credential gives evidence of that skill on top of a core Scrum cert.

Build my study plan

  1. Week 1: Re-read the Scrum Guide and note the purpose of each event, since facilitation questions are framed around reaching each event's outcome.
  2. Week 1: Attend the Professional Scrum Facilitation Skills course or read Scrum.org's facilitation articles and the Facilitation focus area in the competency map.
  3. Week 2: Practise three techniques (for example 1-2-4-All, decision protocols, time-boxed divergence/convergence) in real team events and note what worked.
  4. Week 2: Review the Scrum.org learning path suggested reading and take scenario-style practice questions on facilitation choices.
  5. Week 3: Sit the 30-minute assessment once you can explain why a facilitator would choose one technique over another in a given situation.

Exam-day tips

  • Questions are mostly scenarios: pick the answer that helps the team reach its own outcome rather than the facilitator deciding for them.
  • With 20 questions in 30 minutes you have 90 seconds each, so flag and return rather than stall.
  • Watch for options where the Scrum Master takes ownership of a decision that belongs to the Developers or Product Owner; those are usually wrong.
  • Expect questions on when not to intervene; facilitation includes stepping back once a team can self-manage.
  • Use the free retake window if you took the course: attempt within 14 days so a sub-85% score gives you a second try.

Frequently asked questions

How much does PSF Skills cost?

The assessment is $200 USD per attempt password. Attending the course usually includes an attempt.

Does PSF Skills expire?

No. Scrum.org certifications are lifetime with no renewal fee.

Is the PSF Skills exam hard?

It is short (20 questions) but needs 85%, so missing three or four questions fails you. Candidates with real facilitation experience find it manageable.

Do I need PSM I before PSF Skills?

No formal prerequisite, but Scrum.org strongly recommends PSM I-level knowledge because questions assume you know the Scrum framework.

PSF Skills vs PSM II: which first?

PSF Skills is narrower and quicker; PSM II is a broader advanced Scrum Master exam. Many take PSF Skills first as a step toward PSM II.
